Thesis Diaries Day 155: So it’s Mid-Year Already and the Robots are Against Me

We received an email from the department today asking for our mid-year reports (*cue panic). I’m back in Gore for my final data collection period, and it seems like every robot involved decided to throw a naughty, naughty tantrum. Yep. They all decided to do it at the same time. They knew I’d be here. They knew this time is crucial. They planned the perfect evil master plan.

(If I could self-destruct…)

I am hoping that they get their act together tomorrow. Please. Please Charlie?

Thesis Diaries Day 1.5

Hello from Gore! It’s a small town in the South island of New Zealand, right in the middle of the bigger cities, Invercargill and Dunedin.

I just wanted to commemorate the actual start of my thesis year, before I fall asleep (that’s why it’s Day 1.5… we left yesterday, Jan. 23, and it’s actually 12:51 am now, Jan. 24). We had a  2 hour flight, flying from Auckland, to Wellington, and then landing in Dunedin. From Dunedin, we drove further down for another 2 hours. I wanted to show you on the map, but I’m only on my mobile data, so maybe tomorrow night!

Ever since I was in high school, there was always that time when all my classmates would be bemoaning the arrival of the hell day/week/month. This typically means a period filled with intense work, stress, and a lot of comfort eating and late nights. When I started university, it meant stocking up on coffee and sweets.
